Kick off the musical year with an extra boost!
Tuesday 9 April 2024
The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood
Join Musgrove Opera for an exciting start to the musical calendar with The Children’s Opera Project at The Concourse.
Conducted by Lachlan Massey, the project is designed to be an additional kick-starter to the year in school music programs. Students will learn excerpts from a children's opera - the music is simple but interesting and designed to be learnt in Term 1. It’s also an opportunity to perform in a beautiful space early in the year without the pressure of learning complex works. There are five unison pieces to learn in total, and the students perform in collaboration with artists from Musgrove Opera throughout the performance.
There are two options for chorister selection. Schools can send a choir – students who regularly participate in a choral program, consisting of students from Years 4-6 (in schools where the choral program is Year 3-6, Year 3 students are welcome to join). The other option is to enrol groups of Year 5 classes – e.g. the whole of Year 5. Please contact us if you have any questions in this regard.
The cost for participants is $15. Schools must also arrange for their own transport to and from the venue, as well as supervision on the day. Students will be loaned a performance t-shirt to wear during the performance which will be delivered to schools prior to the performance day. There are backstage spaces provided for teachers and students. The cost also covers music licensing and up to 3 in-class workshops for the school. At least one rehearsal with a Musgrove Opera representative is mandatory to ensure musical consistency across choirs. Students must also perform the short pieces from memory.
